Reviews from James
Halliday - Australian Wine Companion
We were very pleased to receive excellent
wine reviews from Australia’s leading wine scribe James Halliday in the
Australian Wine Companion 2009.
2007 Riesling
Voluminous
lime and a touch of passionfruit on the bouquet; rich, almost fleshy
palate; relatively early developing.
4.5 stars 92 points
2007 Shiraz
A
vibrant bouquet, with green peppercorn and raspberry fruit, medium
bodied and refined wine, with fine tannins and acid on the finish.

2006 Shiraz James Halliday Top
100 Wines Henty Estate
Shiraz 2006
Intense
crimson; while only medium bodied in weight, is packed full of
beautifully ripe, lip-smacking spicy black fruits, the tannins and the
new French oak seamlessly interwoven. “WHAT A WINE”

2006 Riesling
Ripe, lime / passionfruit aromas,
a very well balanced palate thanks
to good acidity, but still at the big end of town.

2005
Shiraz
Strong purple - red, spicy, leafy nuances on
the bouquet unexpectedly foreshadow a deep and powerful palate, with
pure blackberry essence fruit supported by the excellent use of French
oak.

2005
Shiraz Cabernet
Herb and spicy edges to the aromas, once again, almost lusciously sweet
and ripe fruit catches you by surprise, very good balance and length.
4.5 stars 93 Points
2006 Cabernet Sauvignon
Bright,
light crimson; medium-bodied, classically structured cool-grown
cabernet sauvignon without any green or minty characters; very fine
tannins add to the length.

Henty Estate Riesling 2007
I
do like a bit of Western Victorian Riesling and although I don’t
usually ‘drink’ many samples (that way alcoholism or madness lies.) I did
knock this one off over a couple of days and I was very sorry when the
bottle was empty. It’s a top wine.
Opens up exotic and aromatic with spicy citrus, peach and passionfruit
- just so lively and attractive. On the palate it has good weight and
an excellent lightly grippy texture with plenty of crisp clean acidity
and intense flavours of spice, lime, orange, passionfruit and a musky
perfume wafting about. Finishes long and dry. On the second day of
tasting the aromatics settled down and the dominant flavours were of
lime and spice. A great wine of style and character.

2005 Shiraz
Behind this elegant label lies an
interesting Shiraz from Hamilton in Victoria. It’s a cool climate type
with some herby notes but the blackberry-like fruit is ripe and peppery
spice adds nicely savoury seasonings.
French oak is perfectly integrated and the poised, silky palate has
real depth of long flavour, and finely balanced tannins.
4.5 stars A steal at this price
Reviews from Canterbury Wines (Nick)
2007 Shiraz
An
absolute cracker. From a drought year, the wine is
spicy, luscious, rich and velvety. The nose is drop-dead gorgeous,
beautifully perfumed and full of black fruits; which leads into a
powerful, deep and long palate crammed with blackberry fruit. Soft fine
tannins and immaculately handled French oak complete this deceptively
rich wine, which will surely blossom with a few years in the cellar -
provided you can keep your hands off it!

Cabernet Sauvignon
A surprise find! This is an example of a refined cool climate Cabernet.
Very deep crimson colour with deep crimson hue. Ripe Cabernet top notes
of cassis, blackcurrant, spice, violets and cedar. The structure of
this wine is impressive, flavours of cedar and cigar box are evident
over cassis, blackcurrant and spice. Long aftertaste of spice, cedar
and blackcurrant.
Cellar 4-5 years (2010-2011)

2005
Riesling
Bright pale straw colour with green film. Excellent aromatic nose of
lime and lemon followed by floral and spice end notes. The palate
flavour profile is still developing, but has much to offer in the
future. Flavours of lemon and lime are dominant followed by a mandarin
back palate. This is a very impressive Riesling which delivers wine
lovers a carefully managed sense of austerity which will ensure
excellent cellaring potential.

Review from Campbell Mattison - Winefront
2005
Riesling
There's a slight amount of spritz and a slight amount of toasty
development, but this is a lovely drink right now. It's limey and fresh
and flavoursome, a lychee character turning the deliciousness factor to
high.

Reviews from Ben Edwards - (President of the Australian
Sommeliers Association in Victoria)
2004
Riesling
Riesling
shows youthful green hues and exhibits clean, pure citrus aromas
interwoven with a nicely defined minerality. The fine palate exhibits
pure lemon citrus fruits, with a fine, tightly wound palate that is
long and lively due to the concentration of fruit and well-balanced
acidity. Bright in its youth, this wine will age gracefully for 10
years from 2005.
2003
Cabernet Sauvignon
The
deep crimson 2003 Cabernet Sauvignon from Henty Estate displays cool
aromas of confiture red currants, green olives, tomato leaves and hints
of spice. The medium-bodied palate is finely textured with the bright
red currant fruit dominating the cooler savoury aspects of this wine.
The finish has a distinctly savoury twist and would be terrific with a
roast leg of lamb. Enjoy until 2010.
